Liz Spencer-Clare is a contemporary British artist. Trained originally as a theatre designer at Wimbledon School of Art, she went on to study Fine Art at Surrey Institute of Art and Design, University College.
She chooses oil paint because it is a sensuous medium and the language of painting is a technique of translating and communicating that which is beyond words — a physical process of giving tangible form to otherwise abstract thoughts, feelings and emotions.
The paintings evolve via an interaction of marks and glazes which then combine physically and optically to create a sense of form and space.
Each series is part of an ongoing exploratory procedure — a speculative enquiry into the visual equivalents of emotion and lived experience.
Liz Spencer-Clare's works are held in private and corporate collections in the UK, Ireland, France, USA and the United Arab Emirates.
